Michel Lamoller

My studio is my place where I don’t owe anything to anyone, where it feels good to care only about myself.

What I do in one sentence: I create reliefs out of many layers of photos by cutting away parts of each layer manually with a scalpel knife.

Why I didn’t get a proper job: Being an artist IS a proper job!

An artwork I dream of and I would get accomplished if space, time and money were abundant: A really huge installation made of fragments of images, in which visitors can move and become part of the artwork. To be started soon…

Artists, I have on my watch list (and why): Andrea Lolis, because he creates the smartest and most ambiguous sculptures I have seen in years. Adrian Ghenie, because his work is very complex and it is great to hear him talk about his artwork (not a very wide-spread phenomenon). Kyle Fitzpatrick, because he is that undiscovered artist that everyone will talk about in 10 years.

I am afraid of nothing, which makes me probably a fool…

How I want to be buried resp. words I want to be written on my tombstone: At least he tried.
