Kristi Kongi

My studio is my safe place. A place where I can think, there are only my thoughts and ideas and there is a silence. There are all my thoughts. And there are my colours. All my works are created there. So my studio is my second home.

What I do in one sentence: I tell stories through colours, stories which are around us.

Why I didn’t get a proper job: To be an artist is also a proper job.

An artwork I dream of and I would get accomplished if space, time and money were abundant: I would paint a site-specific artwork to public space, maybe in the centre of the city.

Why I do what I do: One thing is that I just love thinking through painting. And I love everything in painting. To paint, it is my way to talk and document the life around us. Painting process gives me the challenge to go on. Maybe through my work the viewer sees or feels something similar and important to her/himself as well.

Artists, I have on my watch list (and why): I don’t have that specific list. I like to watch different artists, different mediums.

I am afraid of war, violence, stupidity, cruelty.

I know that a piece is finished when there is nothing to add. And when my ideas and questions are answered.

How I want to be buried resp. words I want to be written on my tombstone: Peace & Love & Colours
