Barbara Yelin

My studio is my room of one’s own.

What I do in one sentence: I do drawings and texts and then think about the space in between, you can call it “comics” or “graphic novels”.

Why I didn’t get a proper 9–5 job: Well, I chose this 9am–11pm job.

An artwork I would accomplish if space, time and money were abundant: My next book and the one after it and the book after it, and an animated film.

Why I do what I do: Because when I do it I feel connected.

Artists I have on my watch list (and why): Anke Feuchtenberger, Lika Nüssli, Roz Chast, Anna Haifisch, Nino Bulling, Birgit Weyhe, Catherine Meurisse and many more exceptional, inspiring graphic novelists.

I am afraid of vacuity.

I know that a piece is finished when I leave my studio at night and think “this piece could be something” and then return in the morning and it is still good.

How I want to be buried resp. words I want to be written on my tombstone: “Everything is connected”.
