Holm Friebe

My studio is my kitchen.

What I do in one sentence: Making art is cleaning up – I find pearls in the dirt.

Why I didn’t get a proper job: Because… don’t get me started!

An artwork I dream of and I would get accomplished if space, time and money were abundant: floating in the air.

Why I do what I do: To make a difference, that makes a difference.

Artists, I have on my watch list (and why): Hans Ticha, because he was the only pop artist of the GDR. Moritz Frei, because he is the only legitimate Duchamp heir besides Rafael Horzon (and he doesn’t want to be an artist, which makes him an artist in the first place). Sinta Werner, because nobody I know works as precisely as she does. And… uh… enough, isn’t it?

I am afraid of people who are afraid.

I know that a piece is finished when it’s 80% perfect.

How I want to be buried resp. words I want to be written on my tombstone: I recently dreamt that my tombstone reads: “The vacuum cleaner itself is dusty”, but I am actually very optimistic that there will be no tombstone because until then, I think, legal strings will relax and you can be thrown away in the garbage or be eaten by your nearest relatives and friends.
