Musa Michelle Mattiuzzi

My studio is my way.

What I do in one sentence: Appearances in forms of paper, film and in all media that fit the possibilities of communicating.

Why I didn’t get a proper job: because I am best in the creations I make.

An artwork I would get accomplished if space, time and money were abundant: a 5 chapters documentary.

Why I do what I do: because creating is my life.

Artists, I have on my watch list (and why): I have been investigating the artistic poetics of black radical thought and marveling at the processes I have encountered. Works in sculpture, video installation, dance, watercolor painting, abstract drawings are countless media I find in the hands of brilliant artists. I will quote without contextualizing each artist and their research, but they are what have inspired me at this moment: Jota Mombaça, Pelagie Gbaguidi, Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro, Ventura Profana, Dominique White, Donna Kukama.

I am afraid of aging alone.

I know a piece is completed when 10 years have passed and the process has changed a lot.

How I want to be buried resp. words I want to be written on my tombstone: In the dark life is bright.
