Pierre Granoux

My studio is my fountain.

What I do in one sentence: I make artworks that are not art.

Why I didn’t get a proper job: I didn’t get the proper clothes.

An artwork I dream of and I would get accomplished if space, time and money were abundant: Going around the museums of the world in search of Marcel Duchamp’s readymades in order to make the link between the original, the copy and the reproduction visible.

Why I do what I do: Duchamp once said that art is a gap that corresponds to the difference between intention and realisation. I think I realised quite early on that my work was closely linked to this gap, this missing link. Thus, if art is not only what we see, but also what is not visible, I became interested in the process of creation, in the traces on the path to the realisation of a work of art, and in the relationship between the place where art is made and the place where it is exhibited. Finally, this gap between the studio and the cube justifies all my work, my energy and my sacrifices.

Artists, I have on my watch list (and why): Don’t miss the next openings at LAGE EGAL and you’ll find out who and why.

I am afraid of running out of time …and space

How I want to be buried resp. words I want to be written on my tombstone: À bout de souffle (Außer Atem). BREATHLESS
